Workshop | Sicilian Folk Singing con Maura Guerrera

A workshop to share the power and beauty of Sicilian songs! The songs presented during the workshop will be drawn from recordings by ethnomusicologists such as Mario Sarica, Sergio Bonanzinga, Alan Lomax, and others. Serenades, work songs, lullabies…
The workshop aims, on one hand, to convey a precious and ancient heritage, and on the other, to provide the tools necessary to fully explore the potential of one’s ‘popular’ voice.
Maura Guerrera had the fortune to discover Sicilian agropastoral traditional music in 1996 through encounters with Don Nino Sergio, Salvatore Vinci, Pietro Morabito, Turiddu Corrao, and other musicians from the Monti Peloritani. Subsequently, she studied ‘I Modi del Canto Contadino’ with Giovanna Marini at the Testaccio School of Music in Rome and vocal emission techniques with Germana Giannini of the Centro Arte e Curadella Voce in Seville. She currently resides in Marseille, where since 2013, she has been conducting workshops in Singing and Tambourine dedicated to the traditional agropastoral songs of Sicily.
