The preview of June 23 with Eleonora Bordonaro and the Jews of San Fratello, will be an opportunity to present the program of the 15th edition of the Marranzano World Fest, dedicated to reed flutes in Sicily and to the pastoral and traditional aerophones from the Mediterranean to India and beyond.
A long musical journey that begins at sunset on Saturday 6 July, in which the ancient mastery of the Sicilian players of friscalettu and fraut’a paru will meet with the “soul song” of the Persian Nay, with the festive rituals of the Moroccan alghaita, with the multitudes of single and double aerophones from various regions of Italy and the Mediterranean, going up to India with the extraordinary participation of Master Hariprasad Chaurasia, true living legend of the bansuri, the reed flute cross sacred to Hindu culture, which will be the protagonist of the final concert of the festival, at dawn on Sunday, July 14.
It will be an itinerant edition, which will take us on a physical journey to experience unconventional events in close contact with nature: from the Prelude of 6 and 7 July in Contrada Settevoci (Castiglione di Sicilia), until the final suite of 13 and 14 July in Contrada Femminamorta (Riposto), home already from 9 will host the masterclass and the artistic residence of Master Chaurasia.
Between 10 and 12 July a rich program of conferences, concerts, workshops and meetings in collaboration with the Conservatory and the University of Catania and with the Municipal Library Vincenzo Bellini that, as in the tradition of the MWF, will also enhance little or not at all known spaces of the historic center of Catania, and that will culminate with two concerts in the square in front of the Castello Ursino, included in the program of Catania Summer Fest.
An itinerant edition that moves from the historic center of Catania with musical events far from the city and in close contact with nature, renewing and strengthening the twinning with the World Refugee Day thanks to the collaboration with the Consorzio il Nodo.
