Nico Staiti is professor of Ethnomusicology and Organology at the Department of Arts of the University of Bologna. He has done research in southern Italy, among the Roma in the Balkans, in Morocco. He has dealt with polychalms aerophones, frame drums, Christmas music, repertoire and rituals related to gender crossings. He also worked on musical iconography, and audiovisual documentation of music, both methodologically and in application. He has directed and directs numerous research projects, both national and international. With Giorgio Adamo and Sergio Bonanzinga, he is director of Etnografie Sonore/ Sound Ethnographies.
