Nicolò Melocchi

Nicolò Melocchi, an Italian disciple of Maestro Chaurasia, was trained at the school “Vrindaban Gurukul” in Mumbai since 2013, and is currently a teacher of bansuri flute at the Department of Traditional Music of India at the Conservatory of Milan.
Born in Bergamo in 1984, Melocchi developed a deep interest in Indian music during his adolescence, a path that led him to immerse himself in the study of this ancient instrument, but he is also a lover and expert player of other instruments and repertoires of traditional music of India, in particular of the music of the nomads of Rajasthan.
Melocchi had the opportunity to learn the bansuri under the guidance of some of the most illustrious Indian masters, including Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, one of the most influential figures in Indian classical music. This apprenticeship allowed him to gain a deep understanding of both the traditional techniques and the emotional nuances of the bansuri. His unique style and ability to integrate Western musical sensibility with the Indian tradition have made him a highly regarded musician in both India and Europe. Melocchi has performed in numerous concerts and international festivals, collaborating with musicians of various genres and cultures, thus enriching the global music scene.
He received in 2019 the “Pandit Jasraj Award – Cross Cultural understanding” as best foreign exponent of Indian classical music, and has already accompanied Maestro Chaurasia on the stage of renowned theaters in India and Italy, standing out as soloist in concerts organized by foundations such as FIND, ISMEO, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, and also participating in official celebrations of the Indian Embassy in Rome and for the Italian Hindu Union.
Already guest of the MWF in 2018 “Nomadic Sounds”, Nicolò Melocchi in addition to coordinating and overseeing the residential masterclass of the M~ ~ Chaurasia, will participate as a speaker at the conference presentation of Indian classical music at the Conservatory of Catania on 10 July, and as multi-instrumentalist at the concert on Saturday 13 July with the instruments typical of the tradition of the Kalbeliya nomads of Rajasthan
