I Lautari

For thirty years, I Lautari have been immersed in the realm of popular tradition and its renewal through a project that involves the research and reinterpretation of Sicilian songs, as well as the composition of new songs respecting traditional motives and forms. The Lautari have gone beyond the cultural heritage of their own land, exploring diverse ethnomusical identities worldwide. They engage with a perspective that is not exclusively autochthonous, effortlessly interacting with the sounds of various traditional instruments from different parts of the world, including Europe, South America, Africa, and the Middle East. The musical and cultural value of the Lautari’s artistic project has led them to collaborate in theater with distinguished artists and directors such as Pino Micol, Gabriele Lavia, Giorgio Albertazzi, Armando Pugliese, and Peppe Barra. They have also participated in prestigious events like Club Tenco and ArezzoWave. Additionally, the group has been involved in the making of films, including “La lupa” directed by Gabriele Lavia and “Storia di una capinera” directed by Franco Zeffirelli.
