Trân Quang Hai

Trân Quang Hai (Vietnam/France) is a Vietnamese musician and ethnomusicologist based in Paris, hailing from a family of musicians spanning five generations. His father, Tran Van Khe, a renowned musician, is one of the leading scholars of Vietnamese music.
Born in South Vietnam, Trân Quang Hai studied at the Saigon Conservatory and later in France at the Centre d’Etudes de Musique Orientale in Paris. Since 1968, he has been a part of the research group at CNRS – the department of musicology at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris.
He is a refined interpreter of musical traditions from the Far East, playing typical instruments from various countries. Additionally, he is a composer, author, and editor of numerous publications (essays, documentaries, records), including the documentary film “Le Chant Des Harmoniques” (1989), created in collaboration with ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp, and awarded at four international events. For many years, he has dedicated himself to the ethnomusicological and physiological study of overtone singing. He performs concerts and workshops worldwide and has received numerous international awards for his scientific, educational, and musical contributions.
